They arent REALLY broken you know, dont you?

Are they broken?

I had to chuckle the other day while driving home from work. I was sitting at a red light and there in front of me was a car with an Alabama Veterinarian Foundation tag on it. I read the tag line at the bottom of the plate and it said to “Love Them Fix Them”.

Ok, first of all to my lovely wife, you love me and that is evident. You do not however have to express this through the act of ‘fixing’ me. I am not broken and don’t need fixing. In fact, our pets are not broken either.

Why do we use this term when it comes to the pets? Are Spay and Neuter such bad words that we cant use them in pubic, we have to imply that our pets are somehow broken and need to be repaired? Spaying and Neutering are what the procedures were called when designed and that’s the language that should be used.

Should we rename the Open Heart Surgery to something else because someone finds it offensive? You chuckle now, but I am sure someone out there has an issue with talking about it those terms.

Like Bob Barker use to say, “Spay and Neuter your pets”, because I believe in it too unless they are going to be used to raise more. That way you don’t have an accident at your house when your neighbors animal gets a little frisky. But for the love, stop calling it “fix your pets” because people, they are not broken.

Until of course you Spay or Neuter them, then they are not working as designed. Just for the record, when you look this tag up online, the acronym for it is SPNEUT, Im sorry, I think that indicates Spay and Neuter, not FIXTHEM.

Have a great day people!!
